Baptism in the Holy Spirit – Memory Helper

Believers of all walks and countries and races and gender have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in them.  It was not just the disciples, the apostles or great men and women of the Bible that experienced the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.   Furthermore, the Scripture tells us that each of us receive the Holy Spirit the moment we believe according to the Word of God.

Is there a difference in the indwelling Holy Spirit and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?  The following scripture and comments when prayerfully considered should lead to more fully understanding this important topic.

John 1 33And I did not know Him nor recognize Him, but He Who sent me to baptize [1] in (with) water said to me, Upon Him Whom you shall see the Spirit descend and remain, that One is He Who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

1Cr 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1 Corinthians 12 13For by [[1] means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and [2] by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit.

1 John 5 6This is He Who came by (with) water and blood [[1] His baptism and His death], Jesus Christ (the Messiah)--not by (in) the water only, but by (in) the water and the blood. And it is the [Holy] Spirit Who bears witness, because the [Holy] Spirit is the Truth.

1 Corinthians 14 15Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the [1] Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also.

1 Corinthians 2 4And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [[1] a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],

Romans 8 6Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that [1] comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].

Footnotes

  1. How impressive throughout Ecclesiastes is the evidence that, while Solomon is doing his utmost to prove that life is futile and not worth living, the Holy Spirit is using him to show that these conclusions are the tragic effect of living "under the sun"--ignoring the Lord, dwelling away from God the Father, oblivious of the Holy Spirit--and yet face to face with the mysteries of life and nature!

2 Corinthians 3 6[It is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient] as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ], not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit; for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.(1)
